Business Challenges

The client had the vision to create an interest-free credit app (mainly targeting millennials). It needed to allow users to pay for products and spread the costs over three equal payments and embrace the following principles;

  • Users to be able to stay in control by viewing and managing their payments.
  • Users to be able to check how much they have available to spend whenever and wherever they like.
  • Users to be able to update their personal details and marketing preferences from a smartphone (email notifications)

ClearPay already had a fully working website / customer portal to support their business model and needed an app to complement this. The client also had a basic idea for the app and had worked with a previous design company on the branding.

Our Solution

Desap worked collaboratively with ThinkSmart on API integration and content delivery to ensure that the app had all the required input parameters and expected output parameters.

The app was designed and developed by Desap for both iOS and Android.

Our project managers created the most efficient user experience journey and workflows to allow end users to use the app efficiently and without any difficulty.

The following security considerations were addressed;

  • AES encryption
  • Storage of sensitive user information off the handset
  • Detecting compromised and vulnerable RunTime environment
  • Controlling the execution of high-risk mobile operations

We worked closely with ThinkSmart world to ensure the app integrated and complemented their existing systems and followed their governance structure.

When starting the design stage of the process, our creative team made sure to work with the client so we complimented their existing website. Our lead designer worked closely with the client to ensure all branding, style and designs fitted with the website whilst still adding that unique Desap touch to take it up a notch. We provided the client with a range of design options for the app screens and icons. Our creative team wanted to make sure that the client was happy with the end product and so we arranged regular update meetings to discuss any changes or provide expert UX / UI knowledge on the next logical steps.

Once the designs were signed off, it was time to give the clients a working prototype that looked and felt like the finished article. The prototype gave the client the opportunity to see their idea in action and provide feedback on what they liked and what they wanted adjusting. Involving the client in the user acceptance testing (UAT) phase was vital for Desap, as it made sure that the app worked perfectly to our clients’ standards and specification before it was launched to the customers.

At Desap, we love to receive continuous feedback and so we made sure to obtain as much feedback as we could from the client. This provided our QA team with a great basis once it came to the testing phase. Our specialist QA team made sure to work with every department as well as the client to ensure no issues or bugs were left present.

After the final sign off meeting with the client, it was now time to move into the deployment phase and publish the app on the Appstore and PlayStore. It was only a matter of a few days and the app was live and running for ClearPay customers to use!

Business Benefits

The app received circa. 2000 downloads and Desap provided continuous support and maintenance following the delivery and launch of the app. By Desap launching the app;

ClearPay proved the concept and soon were able to show tangible results from downloads and turnover/profit margins. Thanks to the quality of the app and its initial traction, ClearPay ended up being acquired by the Afterpay Touch Group Ltd in order to integrate their offer of payment products.

At the time of writing, Desap is scoping out the full potential of future phases and new products and are excited to be working with the team again!
